Ds is about 7 months old, it is starting to freeze here at night and i will not put the heating on at night (1. think its to stuff, 2. is a long story).
He does not sleep well in a gro bag, so have fleece baby gros. He also wears a vest and a bay gro.
Hom much bedding should he need?

(yes i know it is a dumb question, and yes i stick my hand down his top but need reasurance)

Don't know what the 'right' answer is, but just for interest dd is 7 months, we have the heating on to warm the room when she goes to bed, then for 1/2 hour at about 3am, and 1/2 hour at 7am.

She sleeps in a vest, babygro and (summer)grobag

dabihp · 19/11/2006 20:35

cant get dd (18 mo) to stay under her blanket! too big for grobags now (well any have seen) and cos room is warm when she goes down those fleecy things make her too hot!! (even with ehating coming on 4 an hour in middle of night she still seems to be cold! why cant children stay under balnkets!)

in answer to your question.. havent got the foggiest, but will wathc thread to find out!

littlepiggie · 19/11/2006 20:38

far to cold here for that, i have on PJs, with t-shirt under, and dressing gown, and not over warm, but the house gets to warm when he has all his bedding on, and as the inside doors are open there is no point with the fire.

What is the fleece babygrow made out of? Cotton is far warmer than man-made materials. ditto for blankets, they should be cotton or wool.

You could put some socks over or under his babygro, that's what I used to do.

Mercy · 19/11/2006 20:50

Also, if you can afford it, buy a sheepskin for him to lie on, you can put it under the sheet.

littlepiggie · 19/11/2006 20:51

never looked what they are made from, but has a mix of blankets, just bought ones i like the look of.

well, get a room thermometer, then from that you can asses what tog your baby needs ie. how many blankets. Do you use sleepsuits? The ones with feet etc? I didnt like them at first, but DS always kicks blankets off, but he stays warm with that on.

DizzyBint · 19/11/2006 20:56

dd wears long sleeve vest, sleepsuit and 2.5 tog gro bag. room temp is between 18 and 20.

littlepiggie · 19/11/2006 20:57

yes, he has vest, baby gro, fleese sleep suit.

How is your head today QP?

When my DD was that age she wore babygro and grobag (Asda type) and that was plenty. We have the heating on in the evening but it goes off about 9 until 6.30 am. DS wasn't in a grobag at that point. He would wear a sleepsuit (with or without vest)and have a sheet folded in two and a blanket folded in two.

I do have warm children though. They never wear vests in bed now, just ordinary pjs and a duvet.

Quootiepie · 19/11/2006 21:08

I got in at 5am! but, heads fine thankyou

dennya · 19/11/2006 21:12

Do some babies feel the cold more than others?

littlepiggie · 19/11/2006 21:13

why 5? how ling did it take for you to get home?

OP posts:
Bozza · 19/11/2006 21:15

dennya I think they do. I really do not need to tog mine up as much as some. DS wore a vest for the first time this winter when he went to a sledging party at the snowdome yesterday. DD has only worn them on bonfire night and one other occasion. I sent her to nursery in a cheapy fleece jumper from Asda a couple of weeks ago with nothing underneath and when I went to collect her she was actually sweating. Yet lots of the other children are wearing them.

littlepiggie · 19/11/2006 21:33

where are you all? how warm is it?

OP posts:
Bozza · 19/11/2006 21:35

Yorkshire - not very warm.

It depends on the child I am sure.

littlepiggie · 19/11/2006 21:40

we have a 15 tog quilt on our bed, with a sheet under, and i still needed pjs on.

Quootiepie · 19/11/2006 21:46

LP, I forgot to ring DH, so when we got booted out at 2am, he was an hour or so away, so scummymummy and custy took me home.

Bozza · 19/11/2006 21:49

so sounds like "feeling the cold" might be inherited then? Where are you littlepiggie?

We have a thinner duvet, no sheet and I am wearing pjs this week but a scimpy nightie last week.

Mercy · 19/11/2006 21:50

Littlepiggie, I'm in London so it's not too cold atm overnight. But we have recently added our winter duvet - so about 14 tog.

ds aged 2.9 has a cot duvet from Mothercare which is 4 tog, plus a sheepksin under the bottom sheet. He currently is in a bodysuit and pjs. When it gets colder he will have a woollen blanket too, and probably socks. Not sure if there is an age thing for these particular duvet but they are def. better than blankets

dd is 5 and is always hot. But overnight she gets pretty cold, her room is freezing.

littlepiggie · 19/11/2006 21:56

we are north west, and quite high up, you have been able to see your breath when you breath outside for a week or so, even dh had his winter coat, scarf and gloves on, he is a very worm person.
