Lunchtime nap and 4am waking

DD (10mo) has suddenly started having a really short lunch time nap, 10 or 20 minutes and is inconsolable with tiredness but will not go back to sleep no matter what I do.

She is also waking at 4 for the last few mornings and won't go back to sleep. I'm sure the two are related because she is overtired at bed time but I just don't know what to do about it.

I've been considering dropping her morning nap although she had just twenty minutes the other day and still only twenty minutes and her afternoon one. Also since she is waking at 4 I don't think she will last without a morning nap, she is completely knackered by 9 so it's a bit of a cycle.

She is without a doubt not hungry at any of these points by the way.

Anyone have any suggestions? TIA

Mine could have been worse but not great. I feel like something must be up, she seems so twitchy and unhappy but I just can't get to the bottom of it.

At about 10 months mine started transitioning to one nap. Could you try putting her down a bit later, say 10.30 for a longer morning nap. Then maybe a short nap later in the afternoon? For me this eventually moved to an 11 - 1 nap by about 12 months, with sometimes a quick half hour around 4.30. Then we pushed the nap back later until they were just having a 2 hour nap after lunch.

Thanks Grape I will give it a try. What kind of sleeper was yours though? DD fights sleep at all costs so fitting in a last nap might be really tricky.

Last nap was always a buggy or car sleep!
