Sleep

If baby hates Moses basket

Is he likely to hate one of those cribs that attach to the side of the bed too?

My baby is only 5 days old, so obviously everything is changing all the time and no day has ever been the same yet, but one thing that is always the same is that he has never settled in the Moses basket despite us persevering. We have tried raising the head end in case he didn't like being completely flat, and tried putting him down both awake and fast asleep.

We stayed 2 full, long days and 1 night in hospital and he was absolutely fine in their cribs so I wonder if the Moses basket is too soft or something. Although he doesn't like being in the pram's carrycot either.

So far he has only slept either in car seat for a couple of hours, or on one of us, but then we have to stay awake. It's been fine so far but I don't want to do either of those options long term, and would like to sleep when he sleeps.

He was delivered my emergency forceps so I'm worried maybe being flat gives him a headache! So am looking in to cranial oateopathy but is that overkill at such an early stage??

Excellent way to add to the OPs guilt a week into having a baby.

Sheesh.

Hmm

FATE thank you :) so far the dummy is a boon. Only used it once since my previous post. Went to a breastfeeding cafe this morning and the lady did not seem concerned at all, so that's a second expert who isn't worried about it. Thanks for your post FATE :)

There is also a lot of evidence that dummies help to prevent SIDS

Dummies are demonised- it's a class/snob thing.

I should know- PFB Was definitely NOT going to have them.

Guess what- he does, they work, and he loves them. He's only ever had them for sleep- so I don't expect that will effect his speech development Hmm

You're doing really well OP- so far so normal Flowers

We don't use a dummy because my my baby isn't arsed with them but we tried her with one in the first place because the NICU gave her one to help with releasing oxytocin...if they give dummies then I'm happy to!

My daughter has a dummy just for sleep too and loves it! I see no problem. It's not in her mouth all day

OP may I recommend a hammock? Baby doesn't lie flat, it's not a wide open space, and it moves slightly when she does. Like the womb. Worked for my DD and DN.

My DD is 6 days old and last night we had s good nights sleep. By this I mean midnight until 9am with 2 feeds and straight back to sleep in the crib (snuzpod).

We put her in a vest, baby grow and baby swaddle bag. We put her down on a babymoov cosy sleep. It was a revelation.... Or a complete fluke. Only time will tell.

Hope that you find something that works for you. These things tend to be trial and error. Although, as a mother of four breast fed babies, I would say that feeding them as much as possible in the evening helps enormously.
