DD needs darkness for sleep! What to do when going away?

DD sleeps well at night of room is dark (not black out but pretty dark). We are going to stay will people next week and will be staying in a giant attic room in which there is no way of blacking out all the windows (lots of sky lights and lots of other windows). Has anyone ever come across a solution of covering up the travel cot or something? I'm not sure about doing a giant heavy blanket as a bit suffocating maybe?

I also already have a travel cot and can't afford to buy one that has this kind of Functionality (if there is such a thing!) well actually maybe would be worth it if wasn't too expensive and came with a recommendation!

The last time we went away was absolute hell even though the room wasn't that light, slept about 11-5 with five or six wake ups in between!

Why don't you pack a couple of tubes of foil, spray some water and cover them using that? Surely there aren't that many windows.

Gro anywhere black out blind £20 in Argos- complete life saver and I still use it 8 years on! If you can't afford it, has a friend got one you can borrow?

We had rolls of blackout paper that stuck to the glass using static. Re-useable. Very handy. I'll try to find a link.

Get thee to mothercare and buy a suction travel blind, theyre amazing. first year they've slept past 5am for ages. 27 quid well worth spending.

CrushedVelvet · 21/05/2015 14:46

We have a GroAnywhere which travels with us.
Before we got that we used black garden bin liners plus tape. Make sure tape doesn't damage paintwork around windows.

Sorry I should have said I do know about travel blinds. There are nine skylights and a lot of windows in this loft.

There is also the issue that the people I am staying with (family) think I am incredibly uptight. Their children are good sleepers and think mine aren't because I am insistent on routine and won't let them be in bed with me (I have tried every which way and would gladly have them in bed with me if it meant they slept but it just doesn't). Thus I am really reluctant to do a big number of blacking out the place.

I'd need a ladder to reach the Sky lights to black them out so I wouldn't be able to do it by stealth.

I might be remembering wrong there areaybe six skylights actually.

The link provided by TribbleNamedDave is your answer

MrNedSchneebly · 21/05/2015 17:11

Dave have you used it? So pricy! But potentially life changing!

I've used a blanket before, we actually only put it right over until they were asleep and then we rolled it back a bit to let the air circulate. Would your baby stand sleeping in the buggy instead? Have done that too using the snooze baby shade, can lift them into travel cot once asleep if you really needed. Even better if you're still using or still have your pram, better sleeping surface!

TribbleNamedDave · 21/05/2015 17:17

No sorry I haven't I'm afraid. I had a look on eBay as well, might be something that would sell on easily.

But if you were thinking of a new travel cot anyway, that wouldn't cost as much as that would. The reviews don't look bad either.

Also, to be fair to your DD I'd never manage to sleep in a room like that either! And DS1 likes to be dark so much that he sleeps right under his duvet (age 9 now!).

TribbleNamedDave · 21/05/2015 17:18

Also, nine skylights, do they have any roof left?

Bananice · 23/05/2015 12:51

MrNed, I have this cot snooze shade for DD and it is fab! DD is in a small Phil and Ted's travel cot and it is perfect: no need to draw curtains during the day and can have a bedside lamp on in our room at night so we can see where we are going. Has really reduced travel stress.... It doesn't completely black things out but makes it very dark and cosy
