Co sleeping - mattress advice

Hi, I need to buy a new mattress and plan to co-sleep with my baby. I bought a memory foam one, but the smell of chemicals was so strong that I returned it, didn't want the little ones face pressed up against something so smelly!

Does anyone have any advice about the best mattresses for co-sleeping?

I know it needs to be firm, but not sure whether I should go for natural latex, pocket sprung or just not worry about it so much!

I would say a firm, pocket sprung on. Memory foam and latex are probably a bit too squishy, meaning that baby could roll into any dips you create with your body. Or you could look into thinner matresses that are designed to be used on the floor (useful for when the wee one starts moving about). I'd recommend going to test out matresses in a shop to see how much they dip/depress when you lie on them.

When the baby is very small and immobile, you can sleep with them in the crook of your arm, so they won't be squirming into places you don't want them to.
