When did you put your baby in a Toddler Bed?

My DS part co-sleeps and is 18 months old. We haven't yet given him a pillow and his cot is looking a bit small. We also have to give the cot back in the next 6 months or so because it's needed again for it's owners new baby!

Just wondered at what age people have put their baby's in toddler beds and at what age did they get given a pillow.

dd1 was about 18 months and had to put her in a bed as she starting climbing out of her cot.

She loved her big girl bed and I gave her the flattest pillow I could find til she was used to it being there and then went out and bought her a brand new one later on.

About 2. He had a car shaped one, but he didn't like it; he was scared of the overhead bit, so we changed to a normal toddler bed. He's 3 now and still has one of those pointlessly flat pillows, because he wanted one.

We've never bothered with toddler beds....straight from cot into proper bed - not wasting my money on a toddler bed...sorry...

DD put herself into a proper bed at 2 and a half. That was in June this year. We emigrated to Oz and stayed with the ILs. There was a cot & a bed in her room. The first nigh she slept i the cot & the second she decided that she wanted to be in the big bed. She has been fine ever since. I agree with HRH, wouldn;t waste my money on a toddler bed, tbh. Go straight for a normal one, it should last ages longer than a toddler bed.

We put dd into a normal bed but a low one at 18 months. One side was against the wall and we put her old cot mattress on the floor on the otherside in case she fell out. We figured there was no point in a bed guard and this way she'd learn how far she could turn without falling out. (she never did fall out then but has a few times recently at 3.7!) We alsos gave her a pillow at the same time.

The toddler beds that I've seen did seem super-small actually. I just wanted DS to be able to climb in and out of one on his own.

this is the one we have for dd

sandcastles · 07/11/2006 13:49

I think you would be better of going for a normal, low bed. Dd has a pine bed which is fairly low, and she uses the base as a 'leg up' iycwim.

dd1 also has the extendable bed from ikea which I think is great as ou get all the advantagess of a oddler bed and a normal single

my ds 2.3 is sleeping in his new single bed
since last 2 days...he loves it.
We gave him also a proper pillow.
