Dummy in mouth all night

My 8 month old sleeps with the dummy in his mouth for most of the night. Is this a problem?

I would question how he's keeping it in his mouth so much?

The muscles all across the body relax while asleep and don't stay tensed. This includes the muscles around the mouth and lips which would hold the dummy in place. Also babies move and so gravity knocks it out.

It's usual for the dummy to be sucked until baby is in a deep sleep (hence it being a sleep trigger) then it naturally drops out.

To answer your question - yes I would say it is a problem for the dummy to stay in his mouth most of the night. Affects teeth development, breathing, sleep quality.

How is he keeping it in his mouth all night?

Are you sure - or has he just figured out putting it back?

Oh now I'm not sure! I'll have to check and get back to you!

On close inspection looks like he pops it out but it doesn't fall out. So I've been going in when he's asleep and taking it out. Thanks both!

Ah yes, if they aren't being big fidgets sometimes it just sort of dangles in their relaxed mouth. Smile
