What did you do if your baby would only sleep on their tummy.

DS is 5months and a terrible sleeper. will not however hard I try sleep on his back for more than 40mins (normally about 15) He will however sleep blissfully on his tummy Confused
I don't want to put him on his tummy as like every parent I'm worried about SIDS but equally he normally sleeps on me which again is a SIDS risk.
He can't roll over yet but can lift his head right up from lying down and hold it up for a few seconds.
Any tricks on encouraging him to roll so he can get onto his tummy on his own?
We have a movement monitor but apparently you can't resus a baby who has SIDS (morbid I'm sorry) so that's pretty much useless.
What did you do if you had a tummy only sleeper?
Any tips for getting him to stay asleep on his back?

DS slept on his tummy from 7 weeks, it was the only way he would sleep properly. If you look at the percentages involved and look at all the other factors that contribute (smoking, drinking Etc) you have to weigh it up for your circumstance. I know some people won't have the same opinion and some will be against mine however it is what worked for us. I think the risk in the UK turned up at 0.x% (can't remember the x, it was about 8 I think) The SIDS campaign is a good thing for awareness but also made me overly paranoid.

From 5 months I switched mine to tummy sleeping but but they would roll and sit up etc. Make sure the cot is safe - no soft toys etc etc.

Not wanting to patronise but how can you resus from SIDS - the baby would have sadly died already. You can rouse them if they've just stopped breathing (which mine used to do a lot as little babies - due to reflux - they slept next to me so I woke up whenever they did)/

I thought this too iggly re SIDS but apparently if the reason for them to stop breathing is SIDS rather than suffocating from being face down into their mattress etc then apparently they can't be resuscitated. sorry for the miserable topic of conversation

DS is a tummy sleeper (19 week ) and I have put him on his tummy from about 10 weeks. All sleeps are with me, and we co sleep safely, occasionally with a dummy to minimise risk. He is with partially breastfed.
I weighed up the evidence and decided the risk was acceptable to me. I was not feeling safe to drive due to lack of sleep.
