Dummy just for nursery, possible?

Hi,

Looking for opinions.

My 9 month old will start nursery next week (2 days per week). He naps well at home in his cot with little assistance as long as he's calm & tired. If he's well slept he is happy so I'm desperately keen for him to sleep well at nursery. Until 6 months, he used a dummy to get off to sleep & I removed it after 5 minutes or so. I got rid of the dummy then as he wasn't sleeping well at night & only napping 30 mins in the cot. All the internet advice suggested that he needed to go to sleep independently which he now does & he sleeps much better. This took a few weeks.

I'm nervous that he won't sleep well at nursery & wonder if I should give them a 'just in case' dummy to get him to sleep if they have difficulty. Do you think it would be possible to keep the dummy as a 'nursery nap' thing only? Or will it be like a smoker just having the odd cigarette?!

Looking for opinions / experience,

Thanks x

I wouldn't bring it back now no, he won't understand why it's not allowed for naps at home either so it could disturb your hard work getting rid of it. Like at home, he will learn to settle without it at nursery, and you may find that because it has been gone for a while now that he won't even need it despite his surroundings been different. Can you instead use a different sleep association now if you want him to have some sort of comforter at nursery? A taggie blanket or similar maybe?
