My lo is 11 weeks and has a bit of a problem with feeding to sleep. When she stirs in the night she can't resettle so i have to feed her to sleep again. Wake ups range from 45 mins to 8 hours but recently 1-2 hours max.

So here are the two options that I've singled out ;

  1. start to get her used to not sucking to sleep by removing nipple when she's almost nodded off. Offer boob again and repeat as necessary until she falls asleep without sucking and then progress to removing nipple earlier.

  2. lay her down in the crib just before she drops off. sit beside her comforting her (patting/stroking etc) until asleep. Only pick up if crying gets hysterical.

I'm thinking that shes a bit too young for no 2 but i dont want this association to get any worse.

Maybe if i try no 1 for 10 days, if there's no progress then try no 2.

Do you think she's too young?

If she likes sucking, I'd go for:

(3) Get her using a dummy. It solves the problem of feeding to sleep in a no cry, contented way that allows baby to stay as comforted as she was feeding.

If you're anti-dummy, then I suppose he answer depends on how much crying you can listen to verses time it takes.

(1) will take a long time. (2) will involve listening to a lot of crying. (3) involves some perseverance but no crying, quick, easy and convenient.
