Back to sleep

DS2 is nearly 6m old and has taken to turning on to his side to go to sleep
I wait until he has fallen asleep and turn him on to his back and he generally stays there, but sometimes it disturbs him

Is he at an age where it is safe to let him sleep on his side or should I continue to turn him onto his back? Am quite alarmed by this and find myself checking him every 20 minutes or so

It's fine. Once he is strong enough to turn himself it is perfectly fine to let him find his own sleeping position. Lying on their front is only a problem when babies can't change positions.

He can roll from his back on to his front, but then he gets stuck and squawks, he hasn't quite mastered the front onto back yet, bless him. He doesn't actually roll right on to his front when he sleeping though, just on to his side, with one leg up and his hands to his face - just like mummy sleeps! So I take it, its okay to leave him like that?

Yes its ok. As soon as ds1 learnt to roll over (from back onto front) he always slept on his tummy. The advice is that its fine to leave them there.

lisa dd has been sleeping on her side for months now. I stoppeed rolliong her back at 4 months.

Don't worry at all about it Lisa, basically when their neck and back muscles are strong enough for them to move from back to stomach (even if they get stuck) they are in no real danger. Dd slept on her tummy from about 5 months onwards. Still does at 18 months.
