Dummies - how often to sterilise?

Hi everyone,

Probably a silly question, but is it safe (eg hygiene wise) to keep a dummy (on one of those dummy cord things to stop it dropping out) in the cot all the time so can just pop it in when needed? At moment I'm keeping dummies in Milton and re-sterilising after every session of use even if they've only been in babies' mouths or on sheets. Just not sure how scrupulous I need to be about dummy hygiene in the house!

Thanks in advance for advice!

It doesn't prove anything but I don't sterilise DD's dummies often (she's 4m), maybe once a week but more often when she had a cold. They just lay around the bednest otherwise. If they fall on the floor I do sterilise them as we have cats. I'm a lazy mother though...

When she goes in the cot think I'll get either an air wrap mesh bumper or a sleepy tot comforter thing to try and stop them falling out too much.

I agree with moggle, every week or so but more during colds or if it hits the deck. Personally I wouldn't use a cord though, just leave a few dummies in the cot so they'll locate one whichever way they face. Dummy cords are good for the pushchair but I'd be a bit worried about them getting tangled up in it while sleeping.
