Ds (2 yrs 4 months) naps for about 1.5-2 hrs most days. He goes to sleep for his nap within about 10 minutes, but in the evening, I lay with him for an hour or more most nights, until he eventually settles between 8.30pm (good night) and 9.30pm (not so good night).
Over the weekend, there was a lot going on, and it worked out that he had no nap both days (really unusual), lasted surprisingly well on no nap (also unusual), and then fell asleep in about 10 minutes by 7.30pm, both nights. He slept for 13 hrs and 12 hrs respectively - longer than his usual 10-11 hours.
I thought about 90% of kids still need a nap at age 3, so have been doubtful that ds doesn't need that midday rest at all - especially since he usually falls asleep so easily for it. BUT, there is a connection between him taking a nap and then taking AGES to go to sleep at night.
So do we stick with the nap until ds no longer finds it easy to go to sleep in the middle of the day - and accept the protracted bedtimes? Or scrap ds's nap? (2 yrs 4 months seems a bit early for that ...) Or have we simply entered the phase of a nap some days and not others, while ds begins to grow out of it?
Just want to opt for something fairly consistent so ds remains well rested and his bodyclock doesn't go up the creek. Hmm ...
Any thoughts much appreciated. Thanks.
