ds2 is 7 weeks and every day is a fight to get him to sleep during the day. im ready to pull my hair out.

Today he woke for his morning feed (ff) at 7 and went back to
sleep at 8am until 10ish. he then took half a bottle. sort of dosed in car on 10min drive to shopping centre and qas awake the hour we were there and most of the way home. Brought him in and left him sleeping in car seat while I made a sandwich woke as soon as I put my arse on the seat. bounced him in bouncy seat till I ate still no sleep. Put him in pram and he eventually dosed over whilst being pushed slept for 5mins. dis this again with same result 5mins. nursed and carried him round the room - nothing. gave him another bottle back on pram. 2 more attempts of dosing over with 5 mins sleep. have gave in and put him on my chest wont even give in to sleep. not even with dummy which wev reluctantly gave.

ib tried increasing the amount in his bottle in case he wasn't getting enough but won't take anymore. iv got hom varieflow teets as hes on carobel instead of no2s. today iv gave him gripe water incase he had wind.

nothing is working and I dnt know what else to do.

iv left him crying in his swinging seat feeling like a shit mother as ds1 is clearly being neglected now with all attention on ds2 every day.

Put him in a sling. He won't like it at first and he'll probably struggle or resist it. But just keep walking and eventually he'll go to sleep. Use it every day. It will save you. Dd2 was constantly in the sling at 7 weeks but only sometimes now at 4 months. Try to catch him and settle him to sleep before he gets overtired. Easier said than done with 2, I know.
Lots of Brew. I found 7 weeks to be a horrendous phase but it will pass.

Is he swaddled?

RachieS1986 · 21/03/2015 09:36

thanks for your replies. he eventually fell asleep on me. I will try with the sling again and persevere. he has been swaddled but doesn't always work.

Have you tried hungry baby milk? This might help as it's thicker and will settle him then he should sleep it worked for my son. Try it and see not never know.

Another one for trying the Hungry Baby Milk, it was brilliant when my DS was about that age, ordinary milk just didn't seem to work & he was having more than he needed just to try & fill himself up.

Littlef00t · 22/03/2015 20:24

unfortunately at this age pfb was taking all naps on myself or DH. We transitioned around this age to naps in the pram by taking her out at nap time every nap for a couple of weeks. It was tough, but it got to the point from walking for 20 mins for a nap to a quick push up and down the hallway and she would sleep for an hour or more.

Started putting her in the Moses basket upstairs from 12 weeks.

Sling might be similar and easier to get stuff done but difficult to put baby down once asleep. I don't agree with hungry baby milk unless taking considerably more than the recommended amount of formula, as its just more difficult to digest and can cause tummy trouble.

Also on night wakings, 1 night feed is very respectable, if you can change your mindset to this being normal and reasonable, it might help you feel less down?

I found everything got easier from around 6 weeks, and considerably easier from 12 weeks, hang in there!

I agree about the hungry milk as my health visitor said really for older babies with mature digestive system apparently. Mine is ten weeks old and has woken every 2-3 hrs through the night for feeds as normal so I'm used to it (and hubby works away so on my own). So hours is doing well with one feed hun. Mine also only has power naps through day, nothing substantial but that's just him, I do put him in his bouncer in the kitchen whilst I'm making meals, put the extractor fan on and talk crap to him the whole time and that works. Seven wks is very young still and you are also still recovering from having a baby. It will get better (that's what I keep telling myself ????????) xxx

Screw the bouncy seat. They never worked for either of my DC. I used a swing and vibrating chair. Got a huge pack of Duracell batteries from Costco just in case. I alternated between the two because the vibrating chair was excellent at getting gas out. After 3hrs sleeping in that thing they would take 4oz or so and I was at a 4hr feed cycle by 10 weeks or so.
