The last few nights DS 13months has been awful at going to bed. Screaming the place down, even when I've tried sleeping with him he's screaming or playing when you can clearly see he is shattered. My patients is seriously growing thin. Doesn't help we've moved to a new flat so all the neighbours are hearing is a baby screaming, they just think I'm an awful parent but I don't know what to do anymore. He use to be so good going down at night time.

Does anyone have any suggestions? He's been screaming for the last 5mins now

Have you considered sleep training?

Bumchin101 · 18/03/2015 21:06

What do you mean by sleep training? Like control crying?

We did that, and he's been really good the last few months. All we had to do was tuck him in and turn the lights off and he would be fast asleep till the morning.

The last few nights have been hell

Is it just since you've moved?

If not I would suspect ear ache, have you dosed him up with paracetamol and ibuprofen to see if that makes a difference? It is much more painful to lay down with ear ache.

Yes that is what i meant.

CoveredInWit · 18/03/2015 21:13

Just the last few nights eh? How long have you been in the new flat for? Could it be the unfamiliar room?

My usual checklist for sudden bedtime fighting is as follows: teeth, ill/about to become ill, overtired, under tired from too much sleep during the day/too late a nap, dropping a nap, separation anxiety, learning a new skill, some other crap I haven't figured out yet. My treatment is to ponder each of those things while soothing/cuddling/standing on head/boobing/giving calpol just in case/making sure she's not too hot or cold/completely irrationally blaming my DH so I can quietly fume at him instead of the baby etc etc until it sorts itself out within a few days and I settle back into semi-sanity again. So yeah, I've got nothing.

It's crap but so far in my experience I just do whatever it takes bar sleep training (because I am a wimp).

Hi OP, we had the same issue at 13months with DD1. She was a fantastic sleeper until then and almost over night turned to shit. At it's worst we were having about 2 hours sleep a night.....it was soul destroying BUT it was only a phase. Is DS walking? I had a theory that this period coincided with a lot going on physically which resulted in crap sleeping, ours lasted about 8 (painful) weeks but did get better, good luck!

It doesn't help your situation but it might provide some humour in the nightmare of it all...

Bumchin101 · 18/03/2015 21:23

Thanks for the replies. Coveredinwit your check list made me giggle. We've gone through the list, think it might be teething but already given him calpol just in case or possibly the new place. We've been here 2weeks now and its only the last couple of nights he's been like this. He's finally settled as I beg DP to come home the little bugger. Really hope its a phase, going to work looking like a zombie is not good!
