Should I be waking him??

Hi
Can anyone advise please? Ds is 22 weeks now and sleeping pretty well which I am very happy about. Bedtime routine at 7pm, usually asleep by 8pm and then we wake him at 10.40pm for dream feed (takes ~15mins, back in bed by 11pm), if he wakes/stirs before that we let him get himself back to sleep before getting him up for food. He is waking now only once during the night, usually somewhere between 4.45am and 5.30am (occasionally we reach 6am), he feeds very well then goes back to sleep and does not usually wake until 8.45am, which as I say I am very pleased about. Just wondering though, should I be waking him at say 7.30am so he knows when the day starts? Would this help him drop the 5am feed?
Any comments would be very appreciated! Thanks

I would leave him as he is. it's so nice to get a lie in!

Hi there-8.45 is great!! I always woke my DS (14 mnths) at 7.30 as was just part of our routine and he now wakes up about 6.45/7am - god I wish that he slept till 8.45 now...am knackered!

Hi Hairy

Thanks for the reply! Yes that's what I have been inclined to do - but do you think he will work things out for himself in the end when he is ready - I mean dropping the 5am feed and waking at 'morning time'? First-time mum so not sure if these things just happen!

I would say leave him. Ds did this in early days and they settle down soon enough. I used to find having some time in the morning to get washed and dressed was quite handy!

hairymclary · 28/10/2006 21:30

oh yeh, he'll figure it out himself. enjoy the lie ins while you can.
I don't think that waking him earlier will stop him waking at 5 for a feed, he'll drop that by himself

i would keep up with the dream feed as he will eventually go without waking atthat 4.45 time, when you start solids, definitley keep the dream feed up.

LittleMan · 28/10/2006 21:35

Thanks Everyone
Solids started on advice of H/V, just lunch time at the mo, experimenting with different tastes which is highly amusing to watch! This helped move waking from 2/3am and 7.30am, to 4.45/5.30am and 8.45am so assuming that when step up gradually to 2 then 3 meals will extend night time sleeping! Are we on the right track there do you think? Worried about eventually dropping dream feed though!

hi littleman- solids will defo help your DS sleep better (IMO) once i started weaning my DS he dropped his dreamfeed quite quickly. In hindsight I wished i'd carried it on a bit longer so keep going with that till he is firmly established on 3x meals a day-- good luck- sounds like you have it all under control x

Thanks Swifter
Trying to get to grips with the changes caused by clocks going back and stretching out feeds and stuff so we go back to usual times - why oh why do we have to have clock changes?? Will keep going with solids and dream feed and hopefully will eventually go through.
