Should I shut the stair gate at night?

My problem is I put my daughter to bed in her own room, then I go to bed, when I wake up she's there too. It was just in the mornings, but now it's more like midnight Confused once she's in my bed I don't sleep properly, and she'll try and breastfeed when we are supposed to be weaning gradually (she's 21 months). Our doors don't lock and I worry about her walking around the flat at night. She cant get to the kitchen etc.But can get to bedrooms, living room and bathroom and she has a stair gate on her bedroom door which Locks. Should I just lock the stair gate? I keep considering this but it feels really mean. Thanks x

Won't she just scream at the gate if you close it? Maybe best to work on her night weaning or staying in her own bed. Not sure closing the gate will work

I don't mind having to get up and resettle her, it's that I don't wake up properly. At the moment she doesn't cry just tiptoes in once I'm asleep which puts all the time I've put into getting her to sleep in her own bed come to nothing.

She tries to breastfeed doesn't normally get to. She is night weaned the issue is her getting up and sneaking into the bed.

God it's tricky, isnt it. Sorry I thought you were still feeding at night. If it is just that you don't wake up when she creeps in then shut the gate. Then at least she will definitely wake you up when she wakes and you can resettle her in her bed. Hopefully you can take the gate away later and she will just stay in her bed.

I hope so and thanks Smile it is hard isn't it! We've finally cracked her falling to sleep in her own bed, night weaning etc., and now this has started. X

My kids have had a gate on their door from when they went in beds, I've only just taken it off and they are 3.5 and 2.5. That way I know they are safe. They used to come to the gate and call for me when they were awake. Hasn't caused them any harm :-) leave all the bedroom doors open so hear them anyway.
