my 12 week old ds keeps waking at 4.30 am on the dot regardless of whether he had 4oz formula at 10.30pm or 7oz at 12mn - I used to think he was hungry so fed him but he was not feeding well in the morning, so tried water and/or dummy to settle him back. has anyone else had them waking at the same time every night? and any solutions? ps what is everyone doing about clocks going back sunday?????

Do you think it could be something specific waking him? My friend's neighbour worked at a printing place and left the house every morning at 5.20am and this would wake her DD.

It could be something going on outside the house if it is on the dot of 4.30 or just the natural sleep cycle coming into light sleep and then because of the time he struggles to get back to sleep as he's not as tired as if he woke at 1am????

Clocks - try to adjust his routine gradually over a couple of days by 15 minutes or so.

It's really quiet where we live so as far as I'm aware there's nothing external that should wake him - I guess you're right about him not being tired enough. I'll try with the routine - he woke at 5.30 this morning (it's normally 6.40 ish old time) so I'll put him to bed a bit later tonight and see what happens - I really don't want to be getting up at 6 every morning it's hrd enough at 7! thanks

Hi - my 10 week old does a similar thing, he sleeps well from 7pm to 11pm when he has a dream feed but always wakes at about 3am -he doesn't seem hungry but we've noticed it sometimes seems to be because of wind! We can normally get him back to sleep after cycling his legs to help with the wind and then swaddling and shushing him. I'm thinking of maybe swaddling him from 11pm to see if it helps him to sleep for longer - have you tried that?

We've ended up doing everything about half and hour earlier today because of the clocks going back - so hopefully by tomorrow he'll have settled back into routine.

to neilsmum and littletoadstool - snap!
I can't figure out why the sleep between 7 and 10.30 ish is so peaceful where he hardly stirs and yet the sleep after 11 goes so wrong.
Maybe his bath at 6 wears him out - I'm now trying to keep him awake for longer at the 10.30-11 feed rather than do a dreamfeed to see if it tires him out for a longer sleep. - I'm almost tempted to bath him again!

I used to swaddle him and was getting up almost every hour to tuck his arms back in as he was squirming out of it. I've been using a grobag for the last 2 weeks and found it better as he can lift his legs in the air to let out the wind himself! he's stopped waking up at 2.30 (fingers still crossed) but still wakes at 4.30 - oh yeah that was 3.30 this morning! followed by a 5.45 total wake up ready to play!! damn clocks...
