Anyone successfully gone from tummy to back sleeping?

My DD is 4 weeks old and so far has slept on her tummy due to horrible reflux. This was the only way she would settle without screaming. She is on ranitidine and reflux is massively improved, she quite happily lies on her back now so I am keen to nip the tummy sleeping in the bud if I can! At the moment she is not used to sleeping on her back so when she gets tired she gets cranky and I then have to flip her onto her tummy and settle her so that she can nap. I would love for her to be able to drop off to sleep for a nap just as she is! Has anyone successfully moved their baby from tummy to back sleeping at 4 weeks or later? Any tips?

Dummies are very good for babies with reflux. Have you tried one? That might help to get baby back onto her back.

My DD has started accepting being put down for a sleep on her back for the first time ever and she's a week off. 6 months. Till now I just went with the tummy. Was the only way she's sleep except on me and I wasn't prepared to let her cry it out. She would occasionally sleep on her side. I just kept trying now and then , when I could bear to risk a wake up! She only sleeps on her back now with a dummy, which she has also only accepted in the last month. Good luck.

Thanks guys, we use a dummy for soothing after feeds when her reflux is at it's worst, but can't use them for sleeping (yet!) because she just won't keep it in her mouth! Every 30 seconds or so it just pops right out haha.

Perseverance with the dummy and she'll learn to suck rather than spit it out. It took us about 7 weeks worth of perseverance until DD finally 'got' the dummy.

The dummy won't (and isn't meant to) stay in the baby's mouth all the time they are asleep. Once in a deep sleep the muscles holding the dummy in the mouth relax and it will naturally fall out. That might be 10 minute or might be half an hour - but only until in a deep sleep.

Then when baby stirs and slightly wakes again (often between sleep cycles), reinsert the dummy and a few sucks takes her back into the next sleep cycle and back to sleep.

First though, she's got to understand that a dummy is for sucking on and that does not come naturally to all babies (three of my four have naturally sucked on a dummy from birth, but DC4 has taken some perseverance and teaching until she got it.
