Could night waking be the only symptom of a food/dairy intolerance?

The only reason why I'm asking is because I've noticed that DS2, who is 11 months seems to wake more when he has had yogurt/cheese in the day but he seems OK with cooked dairy products e.g. cheese sauce and formula in porridge, his milk feeds are all breastfed. I know he can't have celery as I cooked some in a chicken casserole once and he was up all night with tummy ache and wind. Just wondering if its a coincidence that he woke less when I didn't give yogurt. He doesn't have any skin or digestive issues other than being a bit windy some nights. I know to find out properly we should both go dairy free for a while but it seems a bit daunting to do that!

Yes it can. We had this. Cut all dairy from his diet plus yours while breast feeding, it takes two weeks to notice a difference. Worth it though! Soya also had a similar impact on my daughter. Lots of good substitutes out there so cooking can still be easy. Our dietician said not to use rice milks as contains lots of arsenic. We use an oat based milk for cereal and cooking which is tasty. My doctor prescribes pepti 2 formula for milk feeds.

Same here - DS slept through the night for the first time when he was 14 months old, on day 20 of No Dairy. It was bliss. For him it was CMPI, which he's now grown out of.

The only way to tell is to cut out dairy and see what happens. Our GP referred us to a dietician who went through all different types of dairy, how and when to try re-introducting etc.

Tesco's have a really good range of Dairy free yoghurts / cheese etc (the cheese is foul IMO but DS liked it!). I was (am) BFing and also cut out dairy, but quickly discovered he was OK if I had small amounts of highly processed dairy (chocolate!).

How often were your babies waking? When did he grow out of it LetThereBe?

He wasn't diagnosed until 14 months, by which time he was probably starting to come through it!

He's 2.1 now and is fine with everything - we probably did the final "rung" of the milk ladder - i.e. drinks of milk - about 3-4 months ago. He would probably have been fine sooner but I was too scared!

Was his only symptom night waking then? Is that how they diagnosed him? I might try dairy free just to see.

My daughter was waking 4-6 times a night. She had terrible reflux and cutting out the dairy really seemed to help this. The lack of dairy didn't stop the night waking entirely but she was always much worse if she had had dairy. I still haven't managed to reintroduce the dairy to her diet.
How were you told to do this LetThereBe? We were told to introduce a milk biscuit.

My son doesn't even have reflux, although did sick up a lot until 5 months old. Wondering if I'm clutching at straws trying to find a reason for him waking! How old is your daughter Ejr?

ds had eczema, glue ear, sleep problems

Needsweetstosurvive · 12/03/2015 17:54

He has had two ear infections but both followed a cold rather than just happening. No eczema.

She is 19 months. I'd just try it and see if it improves. She also had terrible wind and tummy cramps with dairy which woke her. Her wind was very eggy! Nice. Much better now!
