Hi everyone, new member at wit"s end

DD 19mths,screams and becomes hysterical when tried to use duvet instead of her grobag (uses grobag as a comforter,to make matters worse )!.Trouble is she is too big for it now. Tried leaving it in cot with her but terrified of duvet.Any suggestions pleeease!!

have you tried sheets and a blanket? She may feel more secure if all tucked in?

Think for us moving from grobag to duvet was tied in with going into a bed from a cot, though can't really remember what we did.

MortuaryAnyone · 26/10/2006 22:16

Have you tried tucking the duvet under her so that she's in a duvet sandwich?

CaptainCaveman · 26/10/2006 22:17

What size grobag do you have? You can buy 18-36 month size, I bought 2 for ds who now refuses to use them!!

Lio · 26/10/2006 22:18

Interesting as only just made the transition and ds has just turned 3. Do you just need a bigger grobag? I'd offer to pass ours on except I am keeping them for his sister - sorry.

Lio · 26/10/2006 22:19

Being unclear: what I mean is, perhaps don't try the duvet at all yet.

LadyUndetrun · 26/10/2006 22:22

need more details to offer advice.

lemonAIIEEE · 26/10/2006 22:25

Why not just stick with grobags? You can get them to fit up to 36 months. There will be time enough to introduce a duvet later, when she's bigger and perhaps in a bed rather than a cot.

suesaw · 26/10/2006 23:09

Could get bigger grobag but only had up to 24mth in shops I tried!Other problem is she starts Nursery soon and won"t go for a nap unless has "grobag" and a cot.Nursery only has cushions in corner of room,I know she won"t settle and start sobbing. Should I hope for the best or insist on a cot in the baby room?

If it's any consolation I'm having exactly the same thing with DS 18 months. Have tried sneaking a blanket into cot when he goes for a nap but 10 minutes later when he still hasn't settled I go in and he THROWS the blanket at me in disgust! He is about to grow out of bag and am reluctant to buy more unless I have to, as I have laods of sheets and blankets etc.

lemonAIIEEE · 26/10/2006 23:14

I'd hope for the best, to be honest -- I never thought DS would settle for naps at nursery but he goes down like a lamb for them [confused emoticon].

lemonAIIEEE · 26/10/2006 23:15

My DS will sleep without a grobag but won't use a duvet or blanket -- so with the cold weather coming in a grobag it has to be.

vitomum · 26/10/2006 23:19

yes, agree that i would let the nursery have a good go at getting her to nap on the cushions. I was surprised that ds took to napping on mats at nurseries so easily. He is 2.4 and still in a grobag at home.

suesaw · 26/10/2006 23:24

Okay will get another grobag, feel cruel taking it away,am too soft! Will cross fingers for nap time at nursery, alternative is finding a different nursery which accomodates dd but suppose she will have to get out of habit at some time

When dd grew out of her grobag I put her in a fleecy sleepsuit, as she was a real wriggler and never kept any covers on herself.

She was in sleepsuits until just recently and now she's gone into a proper bed she has a duvet. She's 3.6.

Drusilla · 26/10/2006 23:36

Did that keep her warm without any extra bedclothes? DS a real wriggler, he is still often upside down etc in his cot. That was why we put him in a bag in the first place, as he kept waking up cold.

melbob · 27/10/2006 00:13

DS is real wiggler started of with grobag bu then he got frustrated because he couldn't get out of it and spend hours rying to! Moved on to fleecy suits which were great have recently bought a washable wool cotbed duvet from mothercare which he has adjusted to really well its very light I tuck end under mattress and itlies over him even when he wriggles.

Surfermummystomb · 27/10/2006 10:27

Yes, it did Drusilla. Never had a problem with her waking up as she's cold. She's worn them when we go camping too. At Whitsun we put her in two but at other times she just wears one and she's been fine.

Hi I have a 3 year old - when she was too big for her grobag and was moving into a bed we got her a snugglesac. She loves this (it is a sleeping bag with fun designs) and another benefit is that when she wakes up during the night she is wrapped up so snuggly she forgets that she can get out of the bed herself !

PizPizPiz · 16/12/2006 17:01

Another vote for the snuggle sac here. My 2.3y old dd loves hers. She's very wriggly so it's perfect for her.

sputnik · 17/12/2006 23:14

My DD does stuff at nursery nap-wise that she would never dream of doing at home, ie goes to sleep ON HER OWN under a blanket . Don't worry, they adjust better than you think.
