13 Month Old Early Wakings/Night Wakings

Ok wise MN!

I am posting for a friend as she is at her wits end.

13 Month Old girl.

Wakes extra early every day and never after 6am, early as 4am and up for the day!!

They do still try and settle her with a bottle which she often takes â?? so in theory still night feeding.

Any tips or trusted methods of how to get her sleeping through and cutting night feeds? She does eat enough in the day so I am not convinced itâ??s hunger.

Or is this â??itâ??s the way she is?â?? she will grow out of it?

Thank you

Hi, how much is she sleeping in the day?

TheLondoner22 · 05/03/2015 13:08

Apparently she sleeps 1 - 2hr lunchtime nap ....

My DS is 15 Months & sleeps 2hrs in day but full 12 hours a night (lucky I know!!!!!) so I feel for my friend but I have no other suggestions for her

They were up at 4:45am today Confused

Have you heard of wake to sleep?

I've not tried it but there are threads on here about it.

The theory is if there is a pattern (say 4am every morning) then wake her gently at 3am so she stirs and wakes but goes straight back to sleep again. This should break the sleep cycle and start it again. Then baby should sleep another few hours.
So you do this for a full week then stop and then she should stop waking at all and sleep later.

As I say, this is the theory. I was going to try it but DS's wake ups aren't in any sort of pattern so it wouldn't work for us. But a poster called Solo has used it and swears by it.

They might need to be consistent in refusing to get her up-using shush pat or some other method but basically refusing to get her out of the cot until 6:30-she should soon start to realise that nothing much is happening at 4, so better to stay asleep. Better not go give milk because she shouldn't need it-and another incentive to wake. Also they should check there's nothing waking her at that time-I.e heating coming on etc

We have had exactly the same issues with DD who is 13 months.

We used to try shhh patting etc until 6am bit tried and tried and she just cried and exhausted herself the whole time and we ended up getting her up anyway!!

In the end We dropped to one nap at 11 months and this seemed to help, she would sleep until 530 ish. Didn't see the point letting her carry on crying til 6 so started just getting her up at 530 as thought we could settle for that.

But.... Recently she has gone back to waking at 4-430 for the day again!!! It's really hard. I'm considering buying a gro clock even tho she is too young just to see if it can help at all?! I'm back at work now and these early starts are a killer!!!

I've recommended my friend try the wake to sleep method!

Thanks all Smile
