How well does your one year old sleep?

Hello
I'm feeling tired and grumpy. My DS started sleeping through at around 6 months. We spent ages trying to get him to sleep by himself without props, consistent routine etc. But from around 8 months he started waking again around 4:30. He does have a dummy for daytime naps. We don't give it to him at night but when he wakes we do. He used to drop back to sleep with this but now he doesn't. It feels like separation anxiety as if I stay in the room he tends to drop back off after half hour or so. He also sometimes wakes around 10-11 as well. My dh thought he was hungry so we have him dream feed again but it doesn't seem to make much difference to the 4 am wake up. He then wakes up again around 6am. His daytime naps are great! He naps around 9:30-11 and 2-4. Maybe this is too much? I give him dummy and he goes to sleep by himself. He's good at going off at 7pm as well. It's just the night wakings. I suspect there is nothing I can do but I'm really tired and not sure if this is normal or not? I am not getting off to sleep very well and wake pre empting his waking so my sleep is generally 11-4 :-( Thanks x

Dd is 12.5 months and at the moment she sleeps:

Wake - 7.30ish
Nap 9.45/10-11
Nap 2-3/3.15
Bed between 6.30 and 7

Sometimes she's been having just one nap and her day does like this

7.30 - wake
Nap 12-2/2.15 (after early lunch)
Bed 6.15 (early to bed on one nap days)

Don't know if this is any help but happy to share.

My one year old twins get up 730ish and sleep 1-3 and then bed at 7-Id cut back day time sleep, think 2 hours is about right at this stage. Also you might have to tackle the habit of waking at 4 by using some kind of sleep training once you've sorted day time sleep. Re the dream feed babies at this age shouldn't need milk at night, assuming eating well during the day..hope that helps

3.5hrs sleep during the daytime sounds like a lot to me! My 18-mth has about 1.5-2hrs on an average day, bed at 7.20 and up between 6.15-7.00.

We cut naps down to one lunchtime nap as DD was waking a 4 for the day and this helped in as much as she started going to 530. This lasted a few months but for some reason we now seem to be back to the 4-430 starts and it's killing me!!!

Sorry but I think it sounds like he is sleeping well!

Rahdera · 06/03/2015 08:20

Would be bad to give him a dummy in the night? I know this is a short term thing. Or maybe I should try and get rid altogether? It's my saviour for day naps though! Though perhaps that's why he sleeps in the day ha ha!
Maybe I'll try decreasing his day naps. When do they generally drop a nap?
I suppose I am also worrying that he's not "normal" if he sounds like he's sleeping ok that's a comfort I guess but I'm sure he should be sleeping through now :-(

Generally drop to 1 nap between 11-13 months. Whether he takes one nap or two the total time shouldn't be more than two hours and one later nap (around lunch time) instead of an earlier nap and a second later nap can help with early morning waking. He can sleep through at this stage -it might just take some readjusting nap times and some sleep training, so it depends how badly you want it and how far you're willing to go.

Ok thanks am goin to try adjusting nap times. Another 5am wake up
