Ds is 2.5 and still has a weird sleeping pattern . He either :

Falls asleep for a nap late afternoon , sleeps for about 2-2.5 hours , then doesn't go to bed at night until well after 10pm sometimes even after 11 .
Or
Stays up during the day and goes to bed fine at 7 . But wakes up during the night for hours , usually about 1-4 .

Can you get him to nap earlier in the day? The waking in the night sounds like he is overtired without a nap, so thats not the way to go. If you can't get him napping earlier I would wake him after an hour to get him to bed earlier.

My 2.5yr old goes to bed at 8 if he naps 10-25 mins, but a 45min nap will keep him up till 11pm, so sometimes you gotta find the manic number for your child

Agree with flan I would try shifting his nap earlier. Out of interest, what time does he wake in the morning? If it is quite late I would gradually start waking him earlier. So 15 mins earlier for 3 days, then another 15 mins earlier & so on. He will then need his nap earlier & you can then move bedtime earlier.

Hi thanks for he replies Smile

I've tried so hard to get him to nap earlier in the day but it just does not happen . Sad I would love him to nap either just before or straight after lunch but he just won't Confused

Might be worth checking he's not waking up hungry- one of mine did that and I only figured it out one night when I heard his stomach rumbling at 1am. Started giving toast with bedtime milk and it really helped

Lunchtime nap needs to be after lunch - waking up by 3pm at the latest. I'd aim for the sleep starting at 1.00pm.

The waking in the night sounds like over tiredness, he needs more sleep. Not going to bed until 10pm is no good for anyone and is caused by lunchtime nap being too late finishing.

From about 18 months through to about 4 years old my children have slept 7pm-6am and 12.30pm-2.00/2.30pm
