the shush pat - I had my doubts

I honestly thought people were crazy to suggest shush/pat when babies won't sleep. as if a little shhh is going to work...

well, we started Friday night as we really want to avoid cc with our 6.5 mo old, but a month that saw a cold, an eczema outbreak, constipation from weaning and 2 teeth coming in left us at the end of our rope.

in 3 nights we've been able to cut down from 3 night feeds to one and several fewer resettles.

also, this am he had an hour nap in his crib when he's ONLY ever done 30 min.

I'm not getting ahead of myself, but excited to keep at this and feeling hopeful today.

we've been saying no napping after 3:30. Starting bedtime routine at 6:15. it takes 45 min bc of his eczema creams so off to bed at 7. put in bed drowsy after some rocking and he's been asleep within 5 min. resettles (aside from a couple nappy changes that took longer to resettle afterwards) have been pacifier back in, shush pat for about 30 seconds then out the door.

obviously this is a longer road than cc, but I'm willing to take that extra time when we're seeing results.

I also don't mind one night feed. we had a terrible start to bf due to tongue tie and undiagnosed food sensitivities. now that that's all sorted and we're finally having a positive bf experience, I'm actually savouring that snuggly night feed.

That sounds great. I tried it with DD1 and she was still getting louder after 45 minutes. Shock

Wondering what options to try with DS

yeah. under no illusion that this is it and it'll be easy going forward. but after about 3 weeks of getting 4 hours of broken sleep a night and being lucky if he took 3 30 min naps (usually while I was holding or walking him, so not really a break) this felt really positive and worth continuing.

Yes. Sounds good Smile

penguin. the key for us seems to be that he's really tired. 3.5 hours awake at the end of the day and he goes down like a sack of potatoes. normally he can scream, it feels, endlessly.
