My 7 mth old baby won't lie down in his cot

My baby has just turned 7 months, he has previously always gone to sleep in his cot fairly easily at bedtime and for naps in the day. Now he has suddenly learnt how to sit up and he refuses to stay lying down in his cot - he pulls himself to sitting and starts bouncing about - inevitably then bumping his head on the side of the cot. It's taken 2 hours to get him to sleep tonight - it's driving me insane!! Would be very grateful for any advice??

It's another stage. They are changing all the time at this age. I wouldn't get into a conversation with him.Try to limit the talking and leave him to it. I used to potter around up stairs so they know you are nearby. Eventually he might just get bored and settle down.

Ha! I remember this. He is just thrilled with himself, the novelty will wear off eventually

I remember my dawning horror that DD wasn't going to stay lying down anymore and was popping upright rather than going to sleep. I sat watching her thinking 'oh good god this is bad!'. She gradually learned to get herself back down from standing up to lying down, it just took time.

They're so excited at themselves for being mobile and you're thinking 'lie down and go to SLEEP!!'

God I remember this. Iirc it's over pretty fast, in a matter of days. I mean, how long can they keep it up for? Confused (don't answer that Grin)

I've just gone through this with my 10 month old. I'm afraid it lasted around 6 weeks and only just got better the last few nights. I started by laying him down every time he sat/stood but this quickly turned into a game lasting about 40 minutes every evening so I ended up sitting in his room and letting him cruise around his cot until he got bored and cried then I laid him down and he would stay down. Now I get one or no sit ups before he goes to sleep - he got bored EVENTUALLY! Never had this issue with my first, they are all so different!
