And how did you know they were ready?

Mine has only had one nap since about 8 mo. She's now 1 and sometimes goes from 7am to 7 pm with no nap. She is a fucking machine. All the conditions have to be right for her to sleep but she doesn't seem too bothered if she doesn't sleep.

Clocks change soon, will all be mussed up for a bit anyhow....

We never did the whole "nap" as a "thing" thing - just let them sleep when/wherever they needed to. Was a SAHM so it was easy that way.

mrsmagoo I think you should wait a week and see what happens when the clocks change this weekend! That 6.30am start will become 7.30 automatically and you will might find that slightly later start holds him out until after lunch for one big nap. At the very least it will make it slightly easier to get into a new routine if you plan to have an early lunch on Sunday followed by the nap. I sound like I am joking but it's exactly what happened with my DD and it seemed too easy (we had been dithering about what to do), we never looked back.

Cross post, Somewhere, seems it could go either way with the clocks.

I'd accept him waking early for a while if the pay off is a happy boy all day mrsmugoo! mine is 16m and we have the same issue. she does one (short) nap at nursery but still usually 2 at home. after months of nap rigidity I'm going with the flow and it's liberating!

mrsmugoo · 06/03/2015 19:27

I'd forgotten about clocks changing! Yes I'll wait until after that happens for sure.

I know 6:30 starts aren't the end of the world, especially since he sleeps through but I don't start work until 10am and psychologically anything that starts with a 6 is unnecessarily early!

I could do the 11-2 longer sleep but I not sure where lunch would be then? Also I'm not convinced he'd sleep that long anyway.

keepitgoing · 06/03/2015 21:13

sure I understand that, but surely better than an exhausted baby at lunch and bedtime. I guess cap his am nap more to keep him having a pm nap. sounds like he still needs 2

mrsmugoo · 07/03/2015 07:06

I love him having two naps because I get dressed for the day when I'm off work when he has his morning nap so I'm definitely not in a rush to drop to one.

I just wasn't sure what would be the best move capping 2 naps vs dropping to one. He definitely needs less sleep in the day. I think at this age it is best to encourage more night sleep and less in the day if possible - as long as they get the sleep they need, overall. Sleep needs change and he's not changed his routine at all for 4 months.

About 15 months. But oddly it was the afternoon one she dropped. She could never get through the morning without a nap and generally went down around 10 or half 10 for an hour or two, then was fine till bedtime (7pm). It was a PITA as all playgroups etc are at that time!!

Only recently has she been able to make it till 12 for her nap and she is 2.5 yrs now! She doesn't get up hugely early either - 6 or 7 am!

rallytog1 · 13/03/2015 19:58

11 months. She just wouldn't go down for her morning nap any more. It was such a shame - that used to be my getting ready time!

Needsweetstosurvive · 30/03/2015 10:36

Arrrrgggg. I don't know what to do. DS is nearly 12 months now and I'm getting confused over these naps. He goes down at 10ish and sleeps until 11.30 then won't have his afternoon one until 3pm, which finishes at 4pm. This means he won't go to sleep easily at bedtime and doesn't go to sleep until gone 8pm. This is too late as I need him up by 6.30am to get ready for the school run. He still wakes in the night from twice up to 6 times if teething. I might just have to go for it and see how long he can stay awake for in the morning. I hate the 2 - 1 transition!
