Covering baby's face with a muslin

My 15 week old baby has just started to self settle in her cot at night most of the time which is lovely. About half of the time she does this for her naps too, however, in the day time she settles so much more easily if her eyes are covered with a muslin. Even better if her whole face is covered.

At the moment I let her do it to get her off to sleep and then lift it away from her nose and mouth once she's asleep. This disturbs her though.

Is this okay? Or should I persevere with getting her to self settle with nothing covering her face?

Personally I would not feel comfortable about a 15 week old covering her face with anything, because of the smothering risk.

Muslin's tickling face is a really common comfort prop for small children, it is just her age that I worry about. Would be fine with a 12 month old. At 15 weeks she doesn't have control over her own movements fully yet. What if she accidently stuffed a load into her mouth and couldn't breath? Or found it blocking her nose but didn't have the dexterity to pull it away?

How about encouraging her to hold the muslin? Or snuggle up to it by the side of her face?

It will be fine, muslins are open weave. Nursery used to cover my DDs face when she slept there because she was so nosy!
