Recent Sleep Problem - 8 months

Since middle of last week we've been having problems with DS's sleeping. He's been finding it v hard to get off to sleep and crying quite a lot when we put him in his cot, then randomly waking up at night eg. 2am and 5am crying. For one of the nights he was running a temperature which we successfully treated but since then there's been no apparent reason. He does settle if you hold him in your arms but as soon as he's lowered into his cot becomes unsettled. He's 8.5months now and wondered if it was something connected with his stage of development? Up until then now his sleep has been very good albeit the odd noise at night but normally he settles well. Its like his ability to self settle has become impeded.
Grateful for any advice - obvious sleep deprivation kicking in now!

Hi, at this age I had to start putting ds to bed an hour earlier. Something was obviously developing behind the scenes that was making him more tired. So if I was waiting til 7pm I'd missed the "sleepy window". We recorded In the Night Garden and played it so it finished at 6 and then took him up, he started to settle fine and he didn't wake any earlier. Once the phase passed we just gradually moved bedtime later again x

Hi, yes I had pretty much what you're describing last week with my 9-month old. For us it was (as far as I can make out) a mixture of an increased appetite (he was hungry on what I had been feeding him and just needed a bit more), a mild cold and a bit of teething. There may well be something developmental too. I've never witnessed a link between him learning to do something and disturbed sleep but I'm happy to consider it. We sat it out, less than a week later he was back on the old (good) sleep schedule. Good luck

Thanks for both your responses which were very helpful - nice to near tintine it only lasted a week! I've only just heard that at 8-9 months some babies go through a sleep regression. Is this something any of you are familiar with?
