3.5 year old persistent waking

My 3.5 year old son used to be a good little sleeper. We would put him to bed, leave the room and then not hear from him for 12 hours.

For the last 18 months it's been awful and us just getting worse. Now we put him in his bed, read a story and leave the room. He'll then start shouting out for us, wanting with me or OH to go and tuck him in, wipe his nose, or whatever else he thinks he needs sorting. Then he'll finally go to sleep. Then he'll wake between 1 and 4 times a night. Each time he'll want tucking in, nose wiping teddy finding etc. he is more that capable of tucking himself in or doing any of the things he calls us in for.
We are all exhausted but the more tired he gets the worse he sleeps. Yesterday we had a very active day and he woke us up 4 times last night.
When he stays at his grandads house (which isn't very often) he'll sleep through.
I'm at my wits end and need advise how to stop these constant wakings. OH thinks he's just one of those kids that wakes up, but I think he needs help to sleep through. His behaviour can be awful if he's had a bad night the night before.

Any advice gratefully received.

Thank you

I think you need to not reward the behaviour, try and ignore his requests. Get a gro clock and tell him he shouldn't call for you when it's blue, each morning reward him when he has don't it right and stayed in bed til the sun comes up on his clock. It's quite magical and become a lovely part of his routine to say good night and good morning to the sunshine. He is waking out of habit and the only way to break it is to make it pointless for him, he might cry but it's not distress but just a protest! It won't last long xx

Thanks. We have a gro clock, which I've been thinking about getting rid of as that's also a reason for the waking as he'll shout to us to find out how long before the sun comes up!!
I've said to oh this is just habit and we need to not give him attention, but oh gets into conversations with him then gets angry with me when I ask him not to talk to ds.

Tricky, unfortunately I think you need to put the gro click back in his room and tell him that tonight mummy and daddy won't answer him in the blue time. But then you have to be consistent and stick to ignoring him x

Thank you. Currently ignoring him screaming for daddy!
