When did your baby/toddler go down to 1 nap a day?

Just wondering really, sorry if it's been done to death! DS just went down to 2 naps a couple of months ago, he's now 8.5 months old. Trouble is, his morning nap is now starting to get later and overlap with lunchtime so I never know when is best to feed him, this is also pushing the afternoon nap later so it's too close to bedtime.

Not sure what to do now as he doesn't seem ready to go down to just one yet!

About 6 months

BlueberryWafer · 11/02/2015 15:21

About 9/10 monthsj I think.

BlueberryWafer · 11/02/2015 15:22

Sorry pressed send too soon. About 9/10 months, but his morning nap tended to be a 10 minute cat nap after about 6 months.

Both of mine when they turned 1. And time reduced to 1-1.5 hours.

Hmm interesting responses so far. He currently does two 1.5 hour naps a day but maybe in the coming months he'll transition to a longer one.

Today it's been a weird sleep day: he didnt have a morning nap as he only woke up at 9am this morning (a rarity!) and then we went out shopping so he didn't go down until we got back at 1ish. Now he's still asleep 2.5 hours later! That's another question - at what point do you wake them up, is 2+ hours too long for a nap?!

10.5 months here. She's now 13 months and sleeps 11-1ish but then is a horror late afternoon as she's so tired!

MissRainbowBrite · 11/02/2015 16:11

About 14 months then we brought back the second nap for a week when we went on holiday when DD was 16 months.

Flingmoo · 11/02/2015 21:19

Maybe we have a while to go still then...

DS was 14 m but then slipped back to two for a while. We misread signs I think. He'd have his 2 naps then wasn't tired at night but think I just needed to rebalance. Could you cap his morning nap to 40 minutes so he's still having one but it's shorter and doesn't mess up lunchtime?

Or the other way around. I know the later is usually the longer, but DS used to have his longer one in the morning and when I tried to change it I ended up with 2 short ones (aagghh!) so in the end I went with his body clock, then eventually pushed it back to one lunchtime one which has been working for months.

Around 14months

FlossieTreadlight · 12/02/2015 19:27

About 14 months here. Morning and afternoon started to merge with the pm one not long enough for her. In the end I woke her up during the morning nap - after about 30 mins so that she was tired for the afternoon. Worked a treat.

HyperThread · 12/02/2015 19:29

Around 11 months I think.

neversleepagain · 12/02/2015 19:44

14 months

pommedeterre · 12/02/2015 19:48

Sometime between 12 and 14 months I think. I used to do early lunch and then early tea and pre bath snack to keep them in this for the first few weeks!

Stillwishihadabs · 12/02/2015 19:53

Between 10 and 12 months depending on wake up time (if awake before 6:30 almost impossible to resist morning nap before 1 IME) After 7 months the morning nap was out and about so tended to be shorter anyway. He would still sneak in a sly one up to 18m if there was a long car journey or buggy ride.

Stillwishihadabs · 12/02/2015 19:56

Sorry that was ds, Dd around 13m I think. She then went through an amazing phase of sleeping for 14 hours at night with an hour in the middle of the day (6:45pm-8:45am, going on school run in pjs) Unfortunately she is our second.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 12/02/2015 20:24

14 months. After about 9 months she only had half an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon though (we have never reached the heady heights of 3 hours sleep a day, since about a month old!). She now just has the hour after lunch, very occasionally an hour and a half.
