I am at my wits end baby only nap 10-15 mins at a tome
I am desparate, I'm am so tired I don't know what to do. My baby is 4 months 2 weeks. He used to be brilliant at night no crying and used to settle himself to go to sleep. He never really napped much, but i never took much notice until now and he's stopped sleeping through the night waking for a feed, goes down at 7pm dream feed at 10pm wakes at 2:30 which we thought he had dropped until last week. Wakes at 7:30 which I know is really good. But now screams before bed for an hour and naps during day last no more than 10-15 mins and it takes me 40 mins to get him to sleep. I think the little Naps are the reason he is screaming and now sleeping through at night anymore. Any advice to stop the screaming and encourage longer naps??? Sorry about the essay. He does wake during night on several occasions but self sooths back to sleep.

When are you trying to settle him for naps? There is a sleep regression around 4 months (that's why a lot of people wean early then, as they think milk must not be enough but it's nothing to do with that). Could u try a bit later for first nap?

How are you currently trying to get him to nap?
At 4 months they are going through huge developmental changes and the world is so exciting but also challenging for them, so sleep becomes more difficult.
I've been struggling too, but I've found the following helps:
Making sure he doesn't get overtired - remove from stimulation a good 15 minutes before he gets tired to have some quiet time to unwind before nap. For us this is about 2 hours after waking up - my baby is nearly 5 months.
Take him into bedroom for naps and draw the curtains - I found this needs to be just before he starts rubbing his eyes and looking really tired.
Try to make nap times the same time every day - so if your baby is awake roughly 7-7, then you could aim for something like 9am ish (45 min), midday (1 hour) and 4pm (30 mins). Ideally work out what times suit his body clock, and try to stick to these each day - even if he doesn't sleep, just have some quiet time in the hope he will get used to these times as sleep times?! I'm no expert, but this has helped us I think.

Could he be in pain if he is going off to sleep easily but waking after only 10 mins? Wind? Reflux?

I think you are right, the nighttime screaming is because he is overtired. You may find everything resolves soon as it might just be the 4 month sleep regression phase. I hope things get better soon for you.
