Early morning purge

DD (7 months) has in the last week started to wake around 5.30am with a huge bowel movement. By this hour there's no chance of her settling after being changed so the whole day gets thrown out.

She's always been very regular, but used at least to wait until around 10am for her first purge (another normally following around lunchtime). Her early morning thing seems to have begun around the same time as us introducing protein (chicken or fish) at her lunch feed. She still has fruit and rice for her tea, as always.

Any ideas on whether food changes could help this unwelcome pattern?

Hmm slightly gruesome start to your day. Yes, I would expect that this is down to the change in diet. How about trying protein at tea time instead. I know that there is soem advice out there in terms of avoiding tea and trying lunch, but in your circs I'd be tempted to swap round to see if you get a different effect.

Experiment - each day is a new day!

hi, we are havaing exactly the same problem...anything between 4am and 6am for a massive poo!!

THen he just cries for his bottle - no wonder as he is probably hollow...

Ladymuck - if you have any pointers to that advice, it would be gratefully received.

DS is 10mths and eats a variety of finger and pureed food, not necessarily at any particular meal (i.e he might have chicken at teatime or lunchtime, depending on what comes to hand!).

I am going to try wetabix/banana combi for breakfast to aim for a late afternoon 'evacuation'...he usually has baby porridge, then banana as afters later in the day (probably most days - he loves it mushed with cinnamon).
