Should I wake dd or not? Help!

My nearly 5 month old dd didn't have her last nap when at my parents this afternoon (that's a whole other thread). She fell asleep when I got her home at 6:45 and has been asleep since then. She normally doesn't go to bed until 7:30/8pm.

Should I just let her sleep and see what happens or wake her up for a bit and then put her back down in a couple of hours? I can't decide and she's my pfb

What does mn think?

My dd did similar one day and she slept so well it's our new routine! I'd leave her and see how it goes!

My dd would just be really grumpy if I woke her. I'd let her sleep but maybe be prepared for her to be up for a while a bit later?

Ooh I hope it's the same for us firsttime!
Yes I think she'd be really grumpy too Reese. DH normally doesn't see her as he gets in late, so if she does get up for a bit later it'll be nice for him.

Hmmm she's still asleep. firsttime did you wake your dd up at all or did she just sleep better without waking?

We used to wake her at 10.30pm for a dream feed before we went to bed so she wouldn't wake for a feed overnight usually but sometimes she went right through without from about 4mths.
How did it go?

Intrigued as ds often naps 3 30/4ish I always wake him 5.30/6 so he will go to bed 6 30/7 but have often wondered if I left him how long he would sleep for as he's a early riser . ..never risked it as hes good at getting himself to sleep. Sometimes he is grumpy- he doesn't normally want any food but will take milk (6 months) so only just starting weaning so doesn't matter for now and I'm sure his napping patterns will change!

Well that was very interesting! She slept for 7 and a bit hours, which is by far the longest she's ever slept in one go. She woke just after 2 and had a massive feed and nappy change and then after a small amount of fuss slept until 6.20. She was still sleepy so after another feed fell back asleep until half 7!

I wonder if she's not been tired enough when I put her down in the evening? She's been quite hard to get to sleep over the last week. I'd rather her bedtime was nearer 8 though as when I work I don't get her home until 7, so perhaps I'll make sure her last nap isn't later than 4/4:30 so she has a long period of awake time before she goes to bed.

I'd always assumed that 4 hours was too long to be awake but she's in a great mood this morning. If I can get her to sleep 7 hours from 8pm that would be a decent amount of sleep for me and she might make it through the night with only one feed (a massive improvement on the current situation).

It would be much easier if she had come with a manual!

Brilliant! Perhaps try a dream feed at 10.30/11 and she might drop the 2am feed and sleep through! It worked for us anyway. We tried setting dd a later bedtime thinking it'd be better but she just got overtired and that really does affect her sleep. I wish they came with a manual too, it'd be no good though because just when you think you've cracked it they mix it up a bit to keep you in your place! Wink
