i dont want to let her cry until she falls asleep in her cot as some people suggest as she has a heart condition and worried that the stress of this technique would put strain on her heart

You could try gradual retreat. She might cry though. Is she happy when you put her in the cot and stay with her? Hold her hand/ rub her back ect

Sadly no advice from me...I'm have similar. Leaving baby to cry doesn't work...He just gets more and more distressed and awake! he tends to wake as soon as he's moved off lap too so basically his naps are only as long as we're willing to sit still for ! Come on people ....any advice?!

This is what I did with my 2 at that age, they did cry a bit but I never left them crying. I would put them in the cot and stay right there, leaning over the cot and stroking back, holding hand etc. if they got hysterical I would pick them up and settle and then try again until they would stay in the cot with me there. I would then stay until they fell asleep and sneak out of the room. Once they were used to that I would put them in the cot and stand there so they could see me but not touching them and then work towards standing away from the cot and then out of the door until I could put them down and leave the room. It's faffy and takes effort but it's worth it. Both of mine are now good sleepers.
