Going through night (NOT!) at 3 months old

Advice please anyone. My LO wakes up at 4-5am for a feed every night. However she never takes much of breakfast bottle, 2oz this morning if that. She has dream feed about 10-10.30pm, and always takes full bottle in the night. I suspect she doesn't need this night bottle,as she isn't hungry in the morning. Should she be going through?

well, to me it sounds like she does need the night bottle, because she drinks all of it. But you could try cutting it down and see what happens (maybe give her half and then give her a dummy if she won't settle). But do bear in mind that 10.30- 4 or 5 sounds really good at 3 months to me!

Going through at 3 months isn't common - they've only got tiny tummies after all and I'm guessing she definitely wants that 4am bottle if she's drinking it all. Sorry!

My DS was 8 months old before he slept through the night. Think 3 months is quite early TBH

it's completely normal for a 3 month old baby to wake up at night for feed/comfort

colditz · 12/10/2006 09:46

ds2 is 6 months old and went through for the first time last night. 3 months is not common.

Remember reading "by now your baby should have been sleeping through the night for a couple of months now" when I was psyching myself up to wean him (he was 5 months then) and being shocked. Obviously he wasn't and it hadn't even occurred in my sleep-deprived state that he should. He finally slept through at 8.5 months.

DD slept through the night from 12 weeks. She never had a 'dream feed'. Would wake up naturally at about 2ish, then back down and have her breakfast bottle at about 6:45. I would leave her one night and just see what she does.

My dd is 13 weeks and has been sleeping from 7-7 for 2 weeks. People keep telling me we're v lucky - my friend who has a 16 week old is still feeding during night.

A month ago I tried a dream feed for a few nights, it made no diffference to the time during the night (around 3am) that she woke up for her feed. I didn't bother with it and started drinking a large glass of wine in the evnings again instead

DD was sleeping through the night until about 3 wks ago (she's now about to be 13 wks). She was sleeping through from 6 or so wks, the same as dd#1. DD#1 has slept through since then without any probs, but I'm being woken up now at 4-5am every night. It's grim.

3 months is tiny, its to young to worry about her sleeping through the night.
Ds is bf and i feel its a good night if he has 2 feeds between 7-7, and hes 6 months. i know people that ff, cut out the night time feeds and there lo stoped putting on weight and ended up been weaned at 4 months (i know this is not all babies)
its a very small part of there lives, and if she still wants it then let her, she will decide when she is ready.

I do agree that maybe try one night with a smaller feed, but to honest by the time she drops the night feed teething starts and you are still up anyway.

My ds had a phase of not taking much first thing in the morning, after a night feed. But soon he reverted to wanting/needing a night feed AND taking loads in the morning I think she needs this night bottle, sorry.

At her age she wouldn't necessarily sleep through and I think it's worth continuing to dream feed. We've just dropped it at 6 months. She won't be taking much for breakfast because of the 4/5 feed. You could try cutting this down gradually so that she'll take more at breakfast and eventually drop it. This will also have the beneficial effect of keeping her energy levels up until the following feed.

Quite normal, Im afraid. It isnt anything you are, or arent doing. Some babies sleep through early on, and some dont.
