1 yr old DS and his sleep problems

I would like some help as I've put up with this for so long now and today I'd just about had enough......

DS wakes around 6.30am (after a 12hr sleep through the night - no waking) which I'm happy with.
Around 9.30am he needs to go to bed. He sleeps for 2 hours.
He then will not have another sleep until he goes to bed for the night around 6.30pm.

WE THEN HAVE A VERY TIRED AND HORRIBLE LITTLE BOY FROM 2.30PM

He could do with a sleep around 2.30pm most days but never drops off - I've tried the car, the cot (he happily goes off in his cot for his morning sleep) and the pushchair - all without success.

Any words of wisdom out there?

Sounds to me like you've got a pretty good routine going there Momp. Are you at home with him all the time? His sleep needs will change as he gets older and I always find that my ds, just2, gets grumpy and demanding in the afternoon too. He has a sleep pattern almost exactly the same as your ds, and to be honest I think I'm quite lucky with him compared to lots of children I know of the same age who are up 2 or 3 times every night driving their parents to distraction.
I have found that if I give lots of attention with cuddles and books and things in the afternoon my ds is happy even when he's tired.

Thanks for replying, goosey. I think you're absolutely right!

I am a SAHM and probably have let DS's routine get to me while DD has been at home on Easter hols - more to do I suppose.

Will count my blessings in future xx

Thanks for replying twiglett.

I have tried waking him after an hour in the morning but he still doesn't have another sleep then later on in the day.

Maybe I was too hasty starting this thread, because I am now thinking that once DD is back at school on Monday I will have the opportunity to have some mid afternoon "quiet time" with DS.

Thanks again
