am sick of dd2's afternoon nap. she always breastfeeds to sleep (though will go to sleep at night without it)

but in the afternoon I have to feed her and then wait for the moment I think she's deep enough asleep and then try to lower her into her cot

but she's getting more and more difficult to do this with now. she opens her eyes at the crucial moment and dives back in and it takes me about 20 mins now and she only sleeps for an hour

and yesterday I had a cold and I kept sneezing on her head and waking her up

help

how old?

i had to do this with ds and kept it up for yonks

got sick of it and then jsut started putting him down and leaving him to it

Cappuccino · 05/10/2006 09:01

21 months

I just did the easiest thing for too long; got sick of endlessly trying to put her down 'aware and awake' like the hv said and then spend an hour and a half listening to her wail

In exactly the same boat. She did this every hour from 2am last night (11mths). Going cold turkey at half term so at least I won't have to go to work like a complete zombie. Will keep feeding morning and evening but got to stop the middle of the night feeds as they are killng me. Feel like I have created the problem myself for seeking the easy option and wish I had been a bit tougher 2/3 months ago. She has got much worse recently and is starting to pull at my clothes .

belgian I solved the night problem with the help of dh

he went into her for a few nights until she realised there was no point screaming since it failed to summon up any tits

dd2 dropped any daytime nap at 18 months

it was a terrible realisation

Thanks Cappucino - Think Californifrau suggested we should get together on another thread!!! (Well , Capapachino and a blegian bun but hey!)

Dp knows that he will be required. Dd already already screams blue bloody murder when he does to her at night!

same sort of age as ds was then, wee bit older - but wasn't bf by then. still feeding milk and cuddling him into submission.

weirdly the plonking him the cot thing worked really well - took about a week to do without tears and was mechanically precise in routine and timing for maybe three weeks. now its no bother. but i got very hardened to the wailing as was sooo knackered myself.

Cappuccino · 05/10/2006 09:36

ok i'll give the leaving it a go then

only prob is my mother who is soft and has her 2 days a week when I'm working

marymillington · 05/10/2006 09:37

bet she doesn't bf her though

Cappuccino · 05/10/2006 09:45

so how long did you leave your ds then? did you go back to him every few mins for a pat?

cappuchino
can't you leave her where she is asleep - ie on your bed for example? then she she shouldn't wake up when you nip off

marymillington · 05/10/2006 09:54

actually i just left him. i felt a bit evil at first

but i got over it. the situation was ridiculous and it had to stop.
