Ds is 16 months. His day goes like this wake 5am
breakfast 630am
nap 9am to 11am
lunch 12ish
nap (but only if I really force it)3pm to 330pm
Tea at 430 to 5
Bed at 6pm but sometimes if no nap at 3 hes exhausted by 530.
So my questions are how do I shift the whole thing so that hes waking later so then he'll nap after lunch and then bed around 7. My first ds did this without any interference from me so am at a loss. Does anyone have any tips at all? Thanks Smile Smile

What I'd do is shorten his morning nap - he might think it is an extension of his night sleep at the moment. With DS (who also started early waking at the same age), we woke him after half an hour at his 9:30 nap, then put him down about 1ish for a (hopefully decent!) afternoon nap. Our aim was that the 9:30 nap would eventually get dropped at his instigation and we would pull back the afternoon nap slightly to transition to one nap. In the end, we had to encourage DS to drop to one nap as he liked that half hour at 9:30. As soon as we did, he started sleeping later in the morning... We did pay for sleep advice as were desperate when it didn't seem to be working, and they confirmed this approach. Good luck!

Thank you! Will give it a go. He loves his morning sleep but an awake time from 11am to 530pm is just too long.. he must be waaay overtired Sad

I'd do exactly as Bananice says and also add in going out in the mornings so that he can't sleep then! Find some toddler groups/library story time/singing groups and go to those. Don't worry about him being whiny because he's tired, he might be but he'll be interested in playing and seeing what's going on as a distraction and there are so many other whiny tired toddlers at these things that he won't stand out anyway. After not very long he'll adjust and stop feeling sleepy in the mornings and the activity then will help him sleep longer in the afternoon.

Ive been avoiding groups as I thought that would make him more overtired! He does need to nap nearer to lunch though so will give that a go too..
Thank you Smile Smile
