So if I normally co sleep when my toddler is poorly.....

What do I do now that I have a newborn in my bed?!

Ds(3) is generally an excellent sleeper unless ill, and I've always just brought him in to bed with me. That's not really possible now ds2 is here, but I just can't get my head round how to help ds1 overnight when he's unwell! Currently they are both unwell so I was basically up all night flitting between a crying ds in each room - aargh!

Ds2 won't settle in his cot (he's only 3 weeks) so he's next to me, but even if he was in his cot, and I brought ds1 in, they'd just keep each other awake all night coughing and crying.

I'm sure this sounds like a really stupid problem with a really obvious solution - am I just too tired to see it?!

Sorry, just to add obviously if dh is around he can help with ds1 but he's often away.

Aww poor babies. I've been in your shoes. Can Ds1 have his own little bed next to you, while he is poorly, if you don't feel you can bedshare safely with both?

I also found an electronic vapouriser for colds and coughs was useful in the older one's room, it helped ease cold symptoms and he slept better. You can't put it in your room tho cos its for 3 months plus I think.

Nope, no obvious solution!
DH used to help out. If he wasn't around, it was a nightmare.
Are you not keen on both in bed with you, or both in the same room when ill?
The obvious answer is not to get ill Grin

I would have had them both in the same bed personally. Much more chance of a bit of kip for you all that way.

I second a vapouriser, vic - chest, back and feet (then put socks on) for toddler and feet for the younger one. Not sure the recommended minimum age for these though.

There is one called snufflebabe which is suitable for babies I think but I always just used vic, although DD was about 7 months when she got her first cold so not the same as a 3 week old baby.

You'd be surprised at how little they do wake each other up actually.

My DDs always shared a room and never woke each other up when they were sick, crying, wet the bed, went for a wee, had nightmares.....

I have three year old and eight month old and made a mini 'nest' for the bigger one on the floor next to my bed, so he was on the floor but really close, we slept holding hands, whilst baby snuggled into my other side on the bed.
