Won't self settle

My DD was an absolute dream until she was around 7 months (she's now 3 weeks away from her first birthday). Since then she has been a nightmare, we went through 2 months of rocking her in a buggy to get her to go to sleep at night, she won't nap in her cot, screams if you put her down awake and I mean screams like she's being attacked it's truly awful nothing can bring her back from it. I'm lying listening to her screaming just now as she woke over an hour ago and will not go back to sleep, I've tried everything so now I'm leaving her to cry (I feel like the worst mother in the world) but I just don't know what else to do. I've rocked her, cuddled her, sang to her, lay on the floor beside her cot. She's starting to calm down but I can hear little sobs my heart is breaking. I'm I doing the wrong thing letting her cry? Can anyone offer any advice please?.x

Hi

Dd was a challenge to get to self settle. I didn't want to do cc (though we had with ds) but we did similar to you. As long as thry know you're in the room I reckon it's ok. We stroked her back then would go to sit just out of reach but within sight. Then we'd make shushing noises til she finally slept. Took a long time the first few nights then got easier. It's so hard listening to them, but from her pov she's just used to you always being in contact. She'll learn pretty quick that you're still there. Fwiw, 7 months on from where you were it's completely different and now she's happy to go down.

Hi DD was a dreadful sleeper at that age. At 18 months or just before we put her in a cotbed (low to the groin with a mattress on the floor in case she fell out) and she slept through- I think she just hated being in a cot. She is so much better now
(ignore timing of this post- that's me being pregnant and not able to get comfy rather than being up with a non-sleeping child!)
