DS is crap sleeper but this week has gotten worse. He's 17months.

Will wake after 90 minutes running face/nose/mouth. Will go back to sleep after a few minutes (on boob, screams if Dad tries to settle this week). Then wakes after 30 seconds to couple minutes. This then goes on for a couple hours.

Settling/waking/settling/waking.

Is it teeth, I've been giving calpol before bed. The frequent waking is normal but the agitated, face running, not going back to sleep is new.

Maybe some form of separation anxiety?

Have you tried teething powders? I used Ashton & Parsons on DS and it worked most times.

EmmaLL25 · 18/10/2014 07:59

Sorry, the running should be Rubbing!

Yes we use powders too, thanks.

Nothing has changed recently in terns of separation anxiety, but I guess it doesn't need to.

It just seemed more physical, like something is irritating him.

Have you tried ibuprofen instead of paracetamol? Lots of people think it's better for possible teething pain.

EmmaLL25 · 18/10/2014 19:24

Yes, we do use ibuprofen too. Don't see much difference in results though.

He's a sensitive chap!

Have you tried co-sleeping? I know it's not the answer for every one but it's worked for us so far my DS is 14 months and a crap sleeper always has been we have tried all the sleep training he is just so sensitive so I put him to bed in his room and when he wakes 10:30/11 I pop him in our bed and yes some nights we have some more waking a but most nights all of us get atleast 5 hours!

EmmaLL25 · 18/10/2014 21:07

Yes we co-sleep from about 11/12 usually.

I can cope with frequent wake ups when he'll settle quickly but the two hours to get back to sleep was a bit much.

Think it has been teeth though, he's been really bothered by them today.

There's some weeks you feel like you're always drugging them!

Ok so I have had a few rough nights recently, putting it down to teeth to a certain extent and I know what you mean with the medication but I found something else that might help you I have cut DS's afternoon nap to 1.5h max and our sleep at night has improved! We are also getting up at 6 and not 5 :)
