don't wake the baby!

Some of the slightly bizarre and downright ridiculous things we do to avoid waking 5mo dd (in our room) and 3yo ds:

  • avoid flushing the toilet
  • walk round the edge of the bed as if it's a clifftop to avoid the squeaky floorboards
  • whisper, quietly
  • hiss at dh when he's undressing noisily
  • want to pass a law banning noisy mopeds after 8pm
Grin all worth it though!

Do other people do such things?

Yy to the flushing toilet thing... And dd is 5...

studentvera · 04/10/2014 08:12

Haha could have written your post op Smile

butterfly86 · 04/10/2014 08:31

Haha! Yes dd is 15 weeks and we still keep her downstairs until we go to bed...we have the tv on volume level 5 we cant even hear it! I tell dh off for talking too loud or farting for that matter Grin then when we go up to bed he gets wrong for turning over too loudly or snoring...heaven forbid if he wakes her!

Schmoop · 04/10/2014 08:53

Yes our house is like this too haha. No flushing the toilet after DS in bed! And I know which of the floorboards squeak in his room so I do a random hopscotch to get in there if I forget to turn the monitor on!

Misty9 · 04/10/2014 10:44

Ooh I forgot the subtitles on programmes after 8 to keep the volume down Grin

Ha ha! So funny to read these. I've been there too. I used to ban my dad from wearing certain shoes when he visited after bedtime because the are too squeaky! And both he and my Dh have been 'told off' for breathing to loudly. Woe betide anyone who enters my house with a cough!!!!!

Misty9 · 04/10/2014 17:13

Oh yes, and our local Indian takeaway knows us as the 'don't ring the doorbell' delivery!

Yep I sometimes want to murder the noisy neighbourhood kids who play nosily outside our house, the teenager next door who bangs his football on the wall, and anyone who rings the doorbell at any time of day when my 4mo DS happens to be napping! Thank god its getting darker in the evenings so the noisy kids won't be playing outside anymore...

We never flush the toilet at night anymore. And yes I also hiss at DH for tearing off the toilet paper too loudly and coughing, blowing nose etc.

Flingmoo · 04/10/2014 17:45

Actually, one time all the neighbourhood kids were playing some kind of war game loudly outside after DS's bedtime, I heard a gang of them plotting their battle strategy, with the leader saying "Right, what we need to do next is CHARGE".

I marched outside and politely but sternly told them that if they're going to charge, could they please do so quietly like super stealthy ninjas... Normally they tell people to F* off when they get told off (delightful children) but they just looked a bit bewildered at my suggestion.

OsMalleytheCat · 04/10/2014 17:49

I get cross at DH rolling over in bed and breathing too loudly Blush
DS is one and still in our room!!

Misty9 · 04/10/2014 17:51

That's hilarious mamushka :) i have been known to glare at people who talk loudly as they pass the buggy when dd has finally given up fighting a nap and fallen asleep Blush

Poor dh gets elbowed the second he dares snore Grin

We watch the TV on volume 6 with subtitles, get undressed on the landing, go upstairs with all the lights off and use our mobiles as torches, tiptoe around the edge of the bed due to squeaky floorboards, don't close the bathroom door...DD is 13 weeks and in our room :-) when Halloween arrives we are going to take the batteries out of the doorbell and wrap paper around the door knocker to ward off trick-or-treaters!!

RedRose27 · 04/10/2014 21:08

also go 'ssshhh' at the dishwasher when it beeps to show it's finished! (have literally just done this now!)

cogitosum · 04/10/2014 21:11

Osmalley I was literally just about to write pretty much the exact same post! And ds is also 1.

I've removed the bed knobs from our bed as they rattle

Misty9 · 04/10/2014 23:00

Yes yes to using mobile as torch red and you've just reminded me about the horrors of Halloween Shock
Last year dh went to the pub and ds got woken up by doorbell at 8 and didn't go back to sleep until 10... Our doorbell seems to be mains powered and we can't figure out how to disconnect it!

But, revelation people: tonight I put the WASHING MACHINE on!!! And they didn't wake up... Grin
