Nap routine

Hi everyone,

We have a bedtime routine with stories then quiet bottle in her room with dim lights etc. Use of Ewan or mobile. Generally goes off sort of ok.

Recently daytime naps have been bad though. She's been a bit unsettled as I'm back at work so sometimes I look after her, sometimes dh, sometimes my mum. However she just screams and cries and we end up getting her up and trying several times before she'll nap.

Any ideas? Do we need a naptime routine? She's nearly 9m by the way.

My DS is 6 months. I feed him in the living room then take him to the bedroom (always curtains closed and low lighting). Into grobag, lots of whispered "sleep cue words" like "it's sleepy time now darling" etc.. Then into cot, door shut, walk out. He settles himself within about 10 minutes.

I should say though that I wait until he is obviously tired. I spent quite a few months terrified of missing his "window" so putting him down before he looked tired and he would struggle to sleep as was under tired.

This is contrary to a lot of advice you will get on here that say tired signs mean your baby is already overtired.

Brilliant, thanks for that mrsmagoo.
So do you use grobag for day naps as well as at nighttime? We've only ever used at night..

Definitely grobag - when he gets zipped in he knows it's sleepy time. It's a good sleep cue.
