Ditch the dummy?

My newborn has been an absolute nightmare in the day. I've only really been able to get her to sleep in the sling. Not in buggy, in my arms, fed to sleepetc. But has been ok at night. Difficult to settle but once asleep doing the odd five or even six hour stretch which has been such a blessing since I have other DC who want me in the night!

I introduced a dummy a couple of days ago which has enabled me to get her to sleep for half n hour in buggy if it keeps moving and occasionally in my arms if I rock every time she stirs. (Note I am working on all these things as realise rod for own back blabla but just trying to survive at moment!).

The last few nights have been catastrophic. Two or Three hour stretch usually but then hours of resettling and a fitful rest of night. So gives me just enough time to make supper, straighten house, sort other DC but no time for actual sleeping.

So is it the dummy maybe? Have I gotten her dependant on permanent sucking? I haven't been using dummy at night for fear of getting to used to it and waking every time it falls out.

I didn't use a dummy with my other DC so not well informed about it really. Help!

I wouldn't say she is dependant on it after a short amount of time. Every baby has the sucking reflex which they love to use to suck on anything to comfort. I didn't give my DD a dummy but she still sucks on anything that goes towards her mouth and will sometime stir from sleep and find her hand/muzy to use like a dummy as a comfort.
