Can't burp my 6mo overnight = wind later

Hello, my 6 month old wakes for a fees over night but I can't wind her after it. I've trying walking around, sitting then standing and vice versa to see if movement helps, parting her back, rubbing her back in upwards direction but nothing works for me. Reason it's a problem is that a few hours later she'll wakes because if a windy tummy. I'm trying to drop this feed to help with the problem but has read that 6 months is a time for a big growth spurt so want to drop it slowly (reducing by an ounce every 3 days or so).. Any suggestions? Perhaps there is something other than burping I should try to help her wind? (She's always had a windy tummy and has suffered from silent reflux which I think has gone now)- any tips appreciated Smile

have you tried gripe water? works wonders here

I thought that any air swallowed came up as burps and that "wind" was from the digestion process so unrelated to excess air consumed. So it may just be the feed itself. Is she breastfed or bottle fed? My DD has CMPI which can give her wind but it's quite mild and took ages for me to figure out.

That's very interesting biggeryellowtaxi I do remember that being said and I think that does apply to my daughter. She has always had a windy tummy and I thought she might have silent reflux but the GP said it couldn't be because she wasn't vomiting (!), anyway..eventually she was given a very small dose of gaviscon and it really helped her. We've stopped it now as I thought she had grown out of it as day time she's not affected by it (but never really was affected in the day time). Perhaps I should give a little dose of gaviscon again in her over night bottle. She is combination breast and bottle fed and the overnight feed is formula. She does seem hungry at night so I think she genuinely does want a feed, but will predictably wake up approx 3-3.5 hours later with what sounds like tummy ache and wind. How did you diagnose the CMPI?

Thanks Lally...we did try gripe water when she was little and it worked instantly but then gave her big farts which she found hard to pass :-(

Could you try swapping her formula feed to the daytime and expressing milk for her nighttime feed?

Try this to get the wind up:
My chiropractor showed this technique to me and it's amazing!: Sit baby upright on your lap, facing away from you. (You may need to lean baby against your stomach to support her) Lean baby slightly forwards (lean forwards yourself if needed) and put your hands around her middle, with your fingers pressing gently just under her ribs. Then move her upper body in gentle circles, still leaning slightly forwards.

My baby always burps really quickly using this method. If it doesn't work, stop, do a few back-pats or rubs in an upwards motion, and if that doesn't get it to pop out try again.

Hope this helps!

My daughter had reflux when she was 6 weeks old and was told to keep given her the gaviscon until a year old tryraising the mattress with a book or a sausage shape towel help my daughter loads and was given a pillow at a year old

That's Ellie, I tried that when I read your message in the early hours and managed to get a burp up :-) but sadly she still woke after that. I wonder if it is reflux or perhaps something else? Perhaps it is simply caused by her now eating lots of new foods? I wish I knew how to help her. lally112 how/when do you use the gripe water? I wonder if I should try infracol again (used it a bit when she was little) and not sure if it helped that much, but will try anything (within reason!) but not sure if it is meant for 6mo babies?
sewingcakes that is a good suggestion, but sadly my breast milk doesn't sustain for for all that long over night which is why we swapped to formula over night.
Perhaps I need to try and get her to sleep on her side? Wish I knew..
