How do I deal with this crying and sleep problem?

DS is 5 months and for the last 6-7 weeks his sleep pattern has been abysmal.

His latest one is that he is fed to sleep at about 8pm but within 30-45 minutes of him being in his cot he wakes up and just cries and cries unless I pick him up.

Last night he woke up at 20.30pm and didn't go back to sleep for 2.5 hours!!! He cried and grizzled for that entire time!!

He slept for 40 minutes tonight, woke up and the whole charade had started again.

He cries and so I go over to him to soothe him and the second I pick him up he goes silent and smiles at me. I hold him for about 30-60 seconds until he is fully calm, put him back in his cot and he just starts crying again. It is an endless cycle and I just don't know what to do.

I have tried leaving him to cry and grizzle but it escalates very quickly to absolute screaming!!

Am I supposed to just keep picking him up?

I'm going crazy.

The cycle had been going for 45 minutes now...

I can't cope with it for hours and hours like I had to last night. Sad

We had (god still have) same issue. He's basically waking up after one sleep cycle. He comes into light sleep and realises you're not there anymore and wakes up.

So to tackle it you need him to go to sleep without feeding - easier said than done!

There's gradual retreat, pick up put down or suggestions in the no cry sleep solution.

When I can get my DS to go to sleep without boob he sleeps better. Unfortunately there's a lot of the time he won't (teething, illness, change etc).

Sometimes waking really quickly can be a sign of overtiredness too which can mean naps/bedtime need tinkering with.

Could also be teething too.

Good luck
