Any tips for dealing with an early riser?

DS is 7 weeks old and in many respects sleeping really well at night, but he wakes at 5/5.30 every morning and struggles to get back to sleep. He doesn't really cry, just winges, flails about and grumbles and snorts (loudly) until I eventually get up with him.

I've tried feeding then putting back to bed (although he doesn't really seem hungry) rocking, picking up and comforting etc but nothing works. I don't need him to sleep much longer, 7 would be ideal.

His night times at the moment are like this:

Bath, feed and down by 9pm
Feed at 1am ish
Feed at 4am ish

He goes down after each feed really well even when awake and self settles. He's in a Moses basket which he does seem to be outgrowing quickly. (But no option to have a bigger cot in our room - not sure about moving him to own room yet)

I know in the grand scheme of sleep problems this is minor, but any advice would be appreciated.

Oh and incidentally, now I've brought him downstairs he is sleeping quite happily laid on me!

My twins used to wake early like that. When I realised they weren't going back to sleep in their cot, they used to come into bed with us. Used to buy us another hour.

How old were your twins then?
I'm not sure about putting him in bed with us at this age.

And what age were they when they stopped waking early?

I fed back to sleep at that age. DD would sleep til around 8 that way.

I did it from the beginning until they were about two. I would put them on top of the covers, still in their grobag. Our house is a cool one tho, might be careful in a better insulated room.

Try bringing him in bed with you for that last two hours? I do this every morning with mine otherwise he wouldn't resettle past 5am.
