between moses basket and cot?

If your baby has outgrown moses basket, but can't go into cot yet, what did you do? DD is still in hers, but wont last another 4 months in there! I know guidelines are baby in your room till 6 months, and I know I wont be ready for her to go in own room before then. However, her cot simply will not fit in our room. There is no way to make it work.
I looked into co-sleeper cots, but they are too expensive. I do not want to co-sleep with DD in our bed.
There don't seem to be a lot of options. So anyone been in similar situation?

Some Moses baskets do seem very small. I had a crib on legs (from a friend) and baby got to 4.5months in it. I moved him into a cot a bit before 6m but our house is small upstairs so in his own room he is still very close to us.

You can hire co sleeping cots which might be just the answer your lolling for, I'm sure NCT hire them. Try googling it. Hope you find a solution Grin

We have a crib for DD and I wish we'd got one for DS. It was £35 from the local FB buy and sell site. It does swing but the second she wriggles she slides to the lower side and stays there so not much use in that mode!

We had similar with DS. Ended up buying a crib from Kiddicare. Fitted next to my side of the bed and he was very comfortable in it until he moved into his cotbed at 6 months.

This is the one we got:

I had a kiddicare crib too, cheap and does the job Grin

Side sleeper cribs:
I put a request on local FB selling groups for one as I was having a really bad time with my back.

Changed my life - AMAZING DS will be staying in one until he grows out of it. My DH doesn't stir at all in the night, goes to bed and gets up as if we weren't there changed his life to.

I love feeding laying down and can even change a nappy laying on my side. I keep a few nappies, a bib with a plastic front which I just use as a mini in bed changing mat and wipes at the foot of the bed.

I forgot to add, I was offered one for 50pounds also a friend then saw it and loaned me hers.

We have used a travel cot for ours when in the in-between phase.

We used a travel cot. Does the job and you have it for holidays too.

I feel very cruel now. Dc3 grew out of his Moses and bassinet by 10 weeks, but we had same problem of no room for the cot. I put a folded duvet on the floor next to the bed, he was perfectly happy with that till I moved him at 20 weeks into his cot! So was HV :)

We used a travel cot. Im amazed at a two.month old being too big for the moses basket though - they arent that small!!

TheGirlAtTheRockShow · 31/08/2014 08:34

Thanks everyone! I did look around for co-sleeper cots second hand on eBay and gumtree, still too expensive! We do have a travel cot, but my parents were horrified when I mentioned that too them, so thought that must be a bad idea. Reassuring that others have done it. Will look at cribs too. Thanks.
