Swaddling - how to get baby to sleep 'unwrapped'?

We've swaddled DD since she was born - she's now 4 months old. The only time she will sleep unswaddled is when we're out and she's in the pushchair/car seat and when it was very hot a couple of months ago and she slept in just a nappy.
She currently wakes about 2-3 times in the night for a feed. We swaddle her in the day for her naps (2-3) as well and it sometimes takes a bit of rocking to get her to nod off if she doesn't fall asleep after a feed.
She's starting nursery in two months' time and I'd like her to be able to sleep unswaddled by then. How do I go about it? Thanks!

I'd start by half swaddling her, (under armpits instead of over shoulders) and then moving on to just tucking her in tightly.

I have tried half swaddling her but she waves her arms about and wakes herself up! I've tried a baby sleeping bag too but that didn't work as she bashed her face with her hands!

How about just one arm in, one arm out?

we now swaddle him to get him to sleep, and about 30 mins after going up and unwrapping him/doing a loose swaddle and he frees himself happily.

althou it's taken this long for him to sleep and not hit himself etc and wake himself up.

(we're on 7 months btw)

OK will try these suggestions. One arm in and one out should look very 70s night fever!!

i used a sleeping bag straight from swaddling and ds loves it, for me it was the best transition as he's quite active and doesnt keep covers on

Both of mine have been Night Fever babies . DD just hated being completely restricted even though she slept better, and DS is a thumb sucker, so needs it out.

They do tend to have a preference over which arm...
